Why request a postponement

 

With the downturn of our economy today, saving a dollar wherever possible should be taken advantage of.  The Department of Housing Preservation and Development charges a fee for the late completion and submittal of paperwork for the clearance of violations from your building.  This fee can be avoided if you complete the work by the time specified in your notice of violation, or upon reaching the conclusion that you will not be able to complete the work by the time specified, you file a 1st. request for postponement of time to correct lead-based paint hazard violation.  This gives you an opportunity to be granted a new extended date within which to make the correction.

 

If postponement is granted you should complete the work within the time stipulated as a 2nd request for postponement of time to correct lead-based paint hazard violation can be requested but is unlikely to be granted.  If saving a buck or two is important to you, then you need to request a postponement, if you will not be able to complete the lead-based paint abatement on time.

 

Another aspect worth noting is that if you have other violations that are not as serious as lead violations such as A and B violations, you may want to request a postponement to correct the lead violations which if granted will give you more time to correct the other violations that are less serious, so as to submit them all with one dismissal request.  Also, if correcting the violations is not done on time, you will need to pay a fee as stated above.  In this case you may want to correct the less serious violations and submit them with one (1) dismissal request form and paying only one (1) fee, as you are already late on the correction.
